PG & Research Department of English

The Department of English, Providence College has a long- standing tradition of quality and excellence since its inception in 1966. With only 11 students to start with, the department has grown from strength to strength in these fifty glorious years. The lyrics of the college song: “Among the birds and flowers of Providence” was composed by Sr. Patricia Adams, a faculty of the department. The department has a strong tradition of acting. In the earlier years, under the leadership of Mrs.Padmini Adiseshiah and Sr., Margaret Mary plays of professional caliber were staged off- and on-campus. Pageants, music, debates and all liberal arts that are exclusive to the department saw an extraordinary footing from its beginning. At present with around 220 students both in U.G. and P.G., the department is one of the biggest in staff and student member. The department has set its standard on quality teaching and learning and also the overall development of training students in language, literature, communication and liberal arts. The objective is to update academic performance and to build a holistic personality.
